On Fox News yesterday, the Anti Defamation League’s Ken Jacobsen called actress Susan Sarandon's comments calling the Pope "a Nazi" “unacceptable” and “inappropriate.”

Jacobsen said that it’s not just Catholics who are offended, but Jewish people as well. “Our organization is not a Catholic organization, but we’re offended by this,” Jacobsen said. “It’s offensive to those who died in the Holocaust and it’s also offensive for those who care about having civil discussion in our current society.”
I saw the story about Sarandon's comments on television yesterday at the gym while I was walking on the treadmill. While I'm not Catholic, I was absolutely appalled by her remarks. I was a fan, loved her in Thelma and Louise, but now? I'm not so sure I'll watch any more of her movies.
In case you missed it, Sarandon was at the Hamptons International Film Festival over the weekend being interviewed by actor Bob Balaban and in an off-handed comment about giving a copy of the book, "Dead Man Walking" to the Pope, Sarandon quickly clarified that she meant the late John Paul II, not, “this Nazi we have now.” Sarandon  reportedly even repeated her remark.     http://www.vatican.va/holy_father/benedict_xvi/index.htm

So far, I haven't seen a story that says Sarandon apologized for the remark, the way Hank Jr. did after he made his controversial remarks about President Obama.
